GRIIT relies on scholarly research to provide simple, yet sound, solutions for business associations, business owners, organizations and universities eager to compete in the global economy.
- Qualitative research methods – Much of the information that we provide to the business, policy, and educational communities is based on actual travel to markets around the world, particularly Latin America, the Caribbean and Sub-Saharan Africa. These travels consist of one-on-one interviews with key stakeholders to truly understand the impact of specific trade agreements and programs at the economic, industry and firm levels. Rather than using information to fit an existing model, GRIIT actually tests key models within the area of international trade and uses the findings to guide final, sustainable competitive strategies.
- Research design – GRIIT incorporates actual research design into its studies on industry competitiveness in the global market in order to identify the causal factors that explain competitiveness. The scientific approach allows GRIIT to adequately utilize time and resources overseas when collecting data and provide well-thought-out and tested recommendations.
- O-MissionsTM – GRIIT conducts Observatory Missions (O-Missions), especially throughout Latin America and the Caribbean and Sub-Saharan Africa, to observe and, in many cases actually experience, the economic impact of trade programs and trade deals, industry performance and firm behavior. The O-Missions supply in-depth information to narrow the knowledge gap about international trade in the business and educational communities as well as guide international trade policies that impact industries and firms.
- Trade Statistics – GRIIT utilizes a number of trade databases made available by various government agencies and international organizations to identify trade trends between countries and regions at the economic and industry-levels. Additionally, GRIIT uses this same approach to highlight firms that export to different economies and follow their export performance.
- Analysis – GRIIT incorporates its understanding of international trade from a historical and political perspective. This approach is used to adequately analyze the numbers and help the business, educational, and policy communities to fully understand why trade figures move in one direction or another over different time frames. An analysis that adds these two other perspectives allows for the presentation of in-depth, well-rounded, and reality-based strategies to enhance competitiveness in the international market.

- Customized Market Research – GRIIT is providing customized market research for five California-based companies seeking to export to Latin America and the Caribbean. The research project is in collaboration with Cal State University San Bernardino Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration and Center for Global Management, California Center for International Trade Development (CITD), and the Small Business Administration as a part of the 4th annual Global Access Program. - Trade Policy Briefs – The first series focuses on Cuba. With the help of three researchers, GRIIT provides business owners with an interest in the Cuban market with information at three levels–1) US-Cuba trade, 2) California-Cuba trade, and 3) U.S. businesses in the Cuban market.
